My husband and I were married in July of 1979, and have eight beautiful and amazing children together.  As my husband is so fond of saying, “They are all boys except for seven of them!”   We have been a military family and my husband retired in 2007 after thirty years of military service as a hospital corpsman in the Navy.

My first experience and interest in the birth field began in 1980 when I assisted a friend who had a home birth.  I absolutely loved it, and knew in my heart that this was something I had to be involved with in some capacity some day.  Over the years, I occasionally assisted friends with their births.  Twenty-five years after that initial experience, I had the awesome and amazing privilege of attending my first granddaughter’s birth in 2005.

Since our children were growing up and my responsibilities at home were a little less, I decided then that I would pursue becoming a doula.  Working with moms in labor has brought much joy and satisfaction to my lifelong desire.  Ultimately, I hope to study midwifery and become a licensed professional midwife.  Currently, I am working on my certification with Doulas of North America (DONA), and have been practicing as a doula since 2005.  I have done volunteer doula work with an organization called Operation Special Delivery, which provides doulas for moms whose husbands are deployed at the time of the birth.  I am also especially interested in providing labor and birth support for teen unwed mothers, which I will do free of charge when I am available.  Another little helpful information is that I am a Spanish speaker...  I’m not fluent, but proficient, as I grew up in a Spanish speaking household here in the U.S.
